Why “Live Scan” fingerprinting?
As a result of legislation in late 1997, Department of Justice has developed an automated background check process that requires digitized fingerprints (“Live Scan”). Beginning January 1, 2000, DOJ has asked that fingerprints be submitted by Live Scan rather than hard copy fingerprint cards. Digitizing the fingerprints enables the electronic transfer of the fingerprint image data along with personal descriptor information to computers at the DOJ in a matter of seconds, instead of the days required to send hard copy fingerprint cards through the mail.
What is the cost of DMV Live Scan fingerprinting?
The DOJ charges $32 to process your criminal background history report. The $32 DOJ criminal record check fee is collected at the Live Scan site. In addition, the Live Scan agency has a fee to cover the cost to electronically fingerprint the applicant. Alive Scan’s rolling fee is only $18. The total DMV live scan cost is $50 which is paid to the live scan operator.
What will the applicant need to do to be Live Scan fingerprinted?
Occupational licensing requires the applicant to fill out the DMV Live Scan form “DMV-8016 Request for Live Scan Service”. You may pick up the form at your local DMV office or print it up online at “Request for Live Scan Service” Form DMV 8016. Alive Scan also carries this required form at our office. In addition to the form, you will need to bring a valid California drivers license.
