Live Scan Fingerprinting for the Medical Field

Live Scan Fingerprinting for the Medical Board of California

Physician & Surgeon Live Scan Procedure

Before the Medical Board of California can issue a registration, a criminal record clearance must be received from both the state Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). DOJ has implemented Live Scan, an electronic fingerprinting system with a subsequent automated background check and response. Since Live Scan is administered by DOJ, scanning sites are only located in California. Please see “Physician & Surgeon” live scan form to print the “Request for Live Scan Service” form and instructions.

In addition to the live scan fingerprint service, Alive Scan also offers notary and passport photo services. Physician & Surgeon applicants enjoy the convenient services since they are also required to complete the licensing application.

Osteopathic Live Scan Procedure

Before the Medical Board of California can issue a registration, a criminal record clearance must be received from both the state Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your application is considered complete once all required forms, documentation, DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearances and appropriate fees have been received and approved. Please see the  “Application for Osteopathic Physician’s and Surgeon’s Certificate” for the “Live Scan Service Request” form and instructions.

In addition to the live scan fingerprint service, Alive Scan also offers notary and passport photo services. Physician & Surgeon applicants enjoy the convenient services since they are also required to complete the licensing application.

Note: If you are applying for licensing outside of California, you may be required to submit your fingerprints via the old-fashion ink method. For more information about the ink fingerprinting, please visit our “Ink Fingerprinting” webpages.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

In order to be certified as an EMT in San Diego, applicants must complete the live scan process for the purpose of running a criminal background check. The County of San Diego Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will receive this background history report to determine if the candidate is eligible for certification.  Please see the “Request for Live Scan Services” form that will be required by the livescan service provider. As a convenience, we do have these forms printed up at our San Diego facility for applicants.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ensures that emergency medical services, including 9-1-1 ambulance services, and trauma care services are of the highest quality. Please see the County of San Diego Emergency Medical Services website for more information.

Ambulance Driver Live Scan

Since most EMTs also get certified as ambulance drivers, we are including some information to assist. To become a certified ambulance driver, the CA DMV requires an addition livescan. The reason is so that this time DOJ will send your criminal background report to the California Department of Motor Vehicles so that they can determine eligibility. The DMV has there own “Request for Live Scan Service 8106” form to be used. Please see our DMV Live Scan page for more information.
